sunday with the boys

our usual sunday afternoon cuddling was interrupted by a phone call from one of the boys.

"hey bitch!" -> apparently "bitch" is a term of endearment between guys.
"what's up bitch!"
"where are you?"
"we're at home."
"we're at postrio. join us for coffee."

so we left our soft green leather couch for an afternoon with the boys at a quaint little coffee shop in BTC with huge glass windows. perfect for scoping out girls.

we get there and there's johnpaul, glenn and tyne sitting at the table. all of them single and rehashing the night before.

"did you see jewel and chantal dance together? so fucking hot!"

i think to myself... here we go again. cars. girls. cars. girls. funny jokes. girls. girls. girls. halfway throught their conversation, completely oblivious to the fact that there's a lady at their table, johnpaul says to stan...

"fuck man. you better take care of chez and keep her on our side. if she gets mad at you, we're all going down! she knows everything!"

i've been hanging out regularly (as the only girl) with this group of guys for a little over 2 years now. they're actually stans friends but i met all of them before i met him. they're an odd group of early 30s men... none of them married and living up the bachelor life.

the characters:

johnpaul: it's been 6 months since he's broken up with his girlfriend of 5 years. she's moved on and got herself a new boyfriend. he's pretty much in the dating scene, taking out different girls every weekend. came out in lifestyle asia as one of 2006's most eligible bachelors. currently uses friendster to target girls he can date. in the process of constructing the ultimate bachelors pad.

tyne: the baby boy of the group. he's turning 30 this november. has not had a serious relationship since college. always pushing it to the limit. has a need for speed, engages in jet skiing and karting. sleeps like a baby. knows how to comfort me when i have my psycho woman episodes. every girl should have someone like him in her life to offer a male's point of view. sweet in some ways. i'm closest to him.

glenn: cassanova. quite striking with his tall, dark and handsome appeal. metrosexual to the bone. a work in progress. has been engaged twice. likes dating high profile trophy girls. trying to build his marketability by investing in his new hobby photography and buying expensive cars. matronas and gay men seem to be his biggest fans at any given day.

ranny: has been with the same girl for 6 years now. first girlfriend and probably his last. his girlfriend told me that he has until this year to make up his mind. his girlfriend is the dominant one in the relationship. pretty easy going but very shy at first. an avid historian and very smart. poker fanatic. comments on every hand played ala bill gordon.

carlo: funny guy. has recently fathered a child with the other girl who used to be "one of the boys". she's currently in manila with their baby. they're engaged and have been for almost 2 years. no wedding date in sight as of the moment. he says he wants to. she says she's not so sure anymore. oh boy... running joke about carlo: "mr. pentium 286."

nino: went out with my bestfriend for a while but it never worked. a playboy with no pretenses about it but he still gets the girl in the end. persistence is his strategy. claims to be "in love" with every girl he goes out with. latest tryst was with my ex's cousin from the states who ended up living with him for the last month of her vacation.

then there's my stanley. quick witted in making jokes about his friends. brilliant and talented. loves to dance. sings (and he can!) while driving. listens to almost nothing but progressive house intermittent with depeche mode and new wave. introverted and secretive. quiet waters run deep. a good boy with bad habits. according to tyne he has the lowest score (in terms of girls) among the group. has beautiful hands. holds my hand even when his friends tease him about it.

they've been friends for a long time now, some since they were kids. next time i hang out with them, it'll be with a pen and paper so i can write down their stories. i think it'll make a good book. kinda sex and the city sort of... or a dating guide for those who are clueless to the dating dynamics of older men... or the inside scoop of what really goes on a boys night/day out... or blackmail material. haha.
