valentines at school was just an avalanche of heart shaped anything and little people in red and pink. we baked special heart shaped sugar cookies, played a match-the-heart game and colored little heart cards to give to friends and loved ones. it was fun and the kids were so cute. i got lots of sweet things to eat, a couple of cards and a drawing from the grumpiest 6th grader in my art class. that's not counting the run-and-jump hugs and the literally sugary kisses i got from my kids.
i love valentines day as a preschool teacher.

i once asked a 5 year old student of mine from last year's class what love meant for him. without missing a beat, his eyes sparkled and he beamed while emphatically exclaiming "love is when you share your couch and the remote control and watch tv with your bestest friend in the whole wide world."
i never really thought much about it till valentines rolled in yesterday. i'm quite the romantic and i love mushy gushy moments that make your heart melt and your fingers tingle. but all i wanted for valentines was to curl up on the couch like we do almost every night and watch a movie. it didn't even have to be a movie i liked for as long as it was with him.
well, we did exactly that. but true to chezka-form, i just had to bring home a mini dark chocolate truffle cake to make the night a little more special than the usual cuddle+movie night.
i love valentines day with stan.
